Blackout Poems
and planning for next year (ulp!)
It’s been a quiet couple of weeks after so much activity, but I’ve gotten my markers out and played around creating some new blackout poems. Hopefully I’ll have enough to launch a second collection at Festival of the Photocopier early next year.
I recorded myself as I went and have created a free how-to guide for those new to blackout poetry over on my blog. Have a read, tell me what you think. I’m going to be creating more of these guides, focussing less on the materials and more on the thought processes, creativity, the editing and expressing of ideas.
I was surprised to see how many times I read over the text as I went - more than a dozen!
Coming up…
2026!
It’s true, with just 11 weeks until Term 1. Which makes this the perfect time to reach out with queries for workshops, activations and professional development for next year. If you’re in the Greater Melbourne area you can fill in this handy form on my website or email libraryburg@gmail.com to get the ball rolling. If you’re further afield, ask anyway! I can run programs virtually and I am open to travel.
I have loads of experience running programs with primary and secondary schools, community groups and organisations both large and small.
I’d love to bring some Library Burger magic to you!
See you next fortnight,
Rachel
Thank you for reading!
Please share Library Burger around to those you think might find it amusing, those who love books, burgers and perhaps those needing to try something creative.
Look for the next newsletter in two weeks, I have so much to share!
This newsletter was conceived and produced on unceded lands of the Wurundjeri-Woiwurrung people of the Kulin Nation. I acknowledge the ongoing culture of art and storytelling, and care for lands, waterways and communities by traditional custodians. I pay my respects to Elders past and present.
